The founding of Harsman
​
From an early age, Joost van Wijk was fascinated by the forest and by chemistry. As a little boy he scoured the woods looking for things that he found interesting to take them home with him. Now Joost still roams the woods and now he is a chemical engineer and a true inventor. To escape the busy city of Rotterdam, he regularly wanders around the woods in the area surrounding Den Dolder. There, in the forest, he met Jeroen Bus. This meeting grew into a true friendship. In den Dolder he also met Aron van de Wetering and Sam Jennen.
The resin salve started as a gift for them.
The rumor that someone had managed to capture the forest in a jar spread like wildfire. Everyone who smelled it was immediately sold: "Where can I get this?"... This is how the idea for Harsman was born.

Our vision​

At Harsman we stand for honesty, purity and authenticity.
In short: No bullshit.
​
Honesty: We strive for complete transparency and openness in Harsman's production process. We proudly talk about the origin of our resin and how it is harvested. We are also happy to explain what resin actually is and why it is such a unique product.
​
Purity: Our products are pure. The balm consists only of resin, beeswax and olive oil. Our product is not clouded by chemicals.
​
Authenticity: Our choice of resin as the main ingredient for our products is the reason why our product is unique and timeless.
​
Until now, the four of us have been the major users of our own products.
